The 2010 winner of the American Institute of Fine Arts Award, the American Liszt Society Award, and the Los Angeles International Liszt Vocal Competition, soprano Renée Rulon Cortez was recently featured in a national story on NBC Nightly News - Making a Difference. Recent concert appearances include recitals in honor of the bicentenary of Franz Liszt for the Hungarian Consulate in New York and the American Institute of Fine Arts; opera and oratorio arias with the Orange County Symphony and the Orange County Wind Symphony; and an upcoming concert of zarzuela arias with the Classical Cuban Orchestra. 2010 engagements included Adina in L'elisir d'amore with Intimate Opera at the Pasadena Playhouse, Ken Roht's Nutcracker workshop with Center Theatre Group, Carolina in Luisa Fernanda with the Pacific Lyric Association, and Isabel in Cecilia Valdés with the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts. In 2009 she sang the role of Carolina conducted by the son of the composer, Federico Moreno Torroba Larregla. Other roles to date include Despina, Adele, Lucia, Blonde, Rosina, Pamina, and Gilda.
