Pacific Opera Project is dedicated to reaching new opera audiences both on stage and in the community. POP's education programs and community events are adaptable, engaging, and fit for any setting. Every learner is welcome!

The POP Youth Chorus

Learn from the pros and perform onstage in POP's in the 15th Anniversary Season!

The POP Youth Chorus welcomes passionate 5th-12th grade singers and performers to join us on stage! Whether you're an aspiring opera singer, or an opera newbie, join the Youth Chorus to learn valuable new skills from the pros, and perform with us in our

September 2025 production of Ruggero Leoncavallo's “Pagliacci.”

POP's Youth Chorus Members get the unique opportunity to participate in a three-day Winter Break Workshop and Masterclass, lead by professional POP singers, musicians, dancers, and actors! Check out the program perks and schedule below! 

There is no fee to participate. Registration closes August 16th - Apply today!

Attend the POP Youth Chorus
Open Rehearsal

Children and teens must attend one open rehearsal with Youth Chorus Master, David Conley. Each child’s skill level and voice type will be determined, and those with more advanced skills will be assigned leadership roles. Attendance is required, in lieu of an audition.​

Attend all "Pagliacci" rehearsals and performances

Chorus Members must attend all of the following rehearsals and show dates.

One excused absence or pre-scheduled conflict is permitted

MY FIRST OPERA
8-WEEK PROGRAM
GRADE LEVELS: K-12

My First Opera exposes learners of all ages to the many elements of opera and musical theater. The program begins with introductory lessons on opera, followed by fun and engaging social-emotional activities where students create new opera characters and write an original libretto. Students also learn unique, grade-level appropriate skills in stage production, including costuming and set design.

 

Join POP as we guide students through both on-stage and behind-the-scenes creative exploration through this fun and vibrant education program!

OPERA EXPLORERS
6-WEEK PROGRAM
GRADE LEVELS: K-5

Opera Explorers gives a special, kid-friendly look into a current, on-stage POP production. Kindergarten through 5th grade students learn the basic elements of opera through a deep dive into the story, music, and production of an upcoming POP show. With each lesson in this six-week series, we learn more and more about the show to prepare for the grand finale - tickets to the live performance!

 

Join POP and Mozart the Mockingbird for adventures in opera through Opera Explorers!

CUENTOS CANTADOS
6-WEEK PROGRAM
GRADE LEVELS: 2-12

Cuentos Cantados, is an opera storytelling program for young Spanish-language learners that incorporates opera music from Latin America and Spain. Follow Spanish opera’s amazing journey from it’s early European history to it’s current home in opera houses throughout the South, Central, and North Americas, and discover the vast diversity of Spanish history, art, music, and storytelling through opera.

 

Transform your ELD, Dual-Language, or Spanish-immersion classroom or youth center into a musical storyland with Cuentos Cantados!

YOUNG DIRECTORS PROGRAM
7-WEEK PROGRAM

POP's Young Directors Program empowers High School students to write, design, and direct their own, unique opera scenes, based on their real-life stories and starring POP opera singers! This program begins with an introduction to opera, followed by opera production skill-building, and ends in a performance of the students' new opera works.

And guess what?! You can use your Arts and Music in Schools funding to bring POP programs to your school!
