POP Artist Recital Series

Join us this fall and winter for the inaugural POP Artist Recital Series! We’re beyond thrilled to showcase the incredible talents of our beloved artists at POP HQ, in the heart of Highland Park. From October through January, this eclectic lineup of innovative recitals will journey through themes ranging from mariachi to cabaret to holiday classics. We’re sure there’ll be something for everybody. Tickets available now for all recitals!

TWO UNTOLD TALES OF CLASSICAL CABARET

Julia Maria Johnson (soprano) and John-Micah Braswell (piano) present a matinee program featuring cabaret-style songs by classical composers woven together to narrate two musical stories: one of tragically heavy-hearted passion, and the other of impossibly light-hearted homicide. Featuring selections by Samuel Barber, Sheila Silver, and William Bolcom (just to name a few), this unique take on narrative music-making is sure to intrigue and delight!

Ryan Reithmeier (baritone) and David Clemenson (piano) present a matinee recital of 20th century songs from the American continent. This program explores a diverse array of culture and language through a carefully-chosen selection of incredible and rarely heard pieces.

Danielle Marcelle Bond (mezzo-soprano) and Milena Gligic (piano) present a festive evening program to get you in the Halloween spirit. The evening will start with treats & drinks and a 'build a new ghost story". Your suggestions will be used to create new ghost stories sprinkled into the recital! Spooky musical selections will include Schubert's "Erlkönig," Jake Heggie's "Songs to the Moon," and Joseph Horovitz's "Lady MacBeth" scene (among others). *Refreshments will be served

WOOLF, DICKINSON, AND MILLAY IN AMERICAN SONG

Erin Alford (mezzo-soprano) and Clara Cheng Stosch (piano) present a matinee program exploring American songs of the 20th century set to the passionate poetry of Emily Dickinson, Edna St. Vincent Millay, as well as deeply personal diary entries of Virginia Woolf. Alongside masterful works of Argento, Bernstein and Copland, are songs of African-American composer Margaret Bonds; most known for uplifting black voices in spiritual arrangements and collaborations with Langston Hughes, she also gave back to her community by teaching music to disadvantaged youth right here in Los Angeles.

Join Omar Alejandro (baritone) for a night of beautiful melodies and poetry. Alma Mexicana is a celebration of both Mexican classical and folk music. The first half of this program will feature a carefully chosen selection of Mexican Art song with piano accompaniment. The second half of the program includes Mexican folk music with accompaniment by Mariachi Folklore. English supertitles will be displayed.
