Eiki Isomura

Japanese-American conductor Eiki Isomura is artistic director of Opera in the Heights in Houston, where he has led over 100 performances of over 25 operas, and co-commissioned/produced numerous critically acclaimed new operas. He previously served on the music staff of Houston Grand Opera, preparing several world premieres. Recent and upcoming engagements include Tosca at Opera Orlando; Meilina Tsui/Melisa Tien’s The Big Swim at Houston Grand Opera; Toshio Hosokawa’s The Raven at Opera Philadelphia; and Jack Perla/Jessica Murphy Moo’s An American Dream at Opera Santa Barbara. As a librettist/translator, he has provided singable Japanese translations for Pacific Opera Project's bilingual Madama Butterfly and the IN Series' Nightsong of Orpheus. He conducted the recordings of Brandt/Beber's Kassandra and Ionesco/Al-Zand's The Leader, on the Navona and Parma labels, both named critic's choices in Opera News. Isomura serves on the Opera America Artistic Services Council and holds a doctorate in orchestral conducting from the University of Michigan.
