Joanna Kim

Joanna Kim, a Korean-American lyric coloratura soprano, is praised for her “crystal-clear” voice and compelling stage presence (Stage Scene LA). She has earned top honors in numerous competitions, including First Place in the Gwendolyn Roberts Young Artist Auditions of NATS-Los Angeles (NATS-LA), First Place in the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Young Artist Competition (2026), and recognition as a District Winner in the NATSAA Artist Awards Competition (Cal-Western Division).

Most recently, Joanna performed Cunegonde in Candide and Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica with Opera in the Ozarks. She also covered Blonde in Pacific Opera Project’s Star Trek-themed production of The Abduction from the Seraglio. Additional recent engagements include Sophie in Terrence McNally’s Master Class at the Sierra Madre Playhouse, directed by Tim Dang, and Christine in Pacific Opera Project’s outreach production of The Phantom of the Opera. Joanna is also a member of the Los Angeles Opera Chorus and Adoro Ensemble, a Los Angeles-based vocal chamber group.

Her previous roles include Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Regium Lepidi Opera Company; Diana (Orphée aux enfers), Cinderella (Into the Woods), and cover Gilda (Rigoletto) with Opera North; the Son in The Juniper Tree by Philip Glass and Robert Moran; Norina (Don Pasquale) and Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the USC Thornton School of Music; Star Singer in a concert collaboration with the Beth Morrison Project; and Amore (L’incoronazione di Poppea) and Amahl (Amahl and the Night Visitors) at the New England Conservatory. She has also been a finalist in the Opera Guild Vocal Competition, the Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition, and the Classical Singer Competition (Young Artist Division).

Beyond the operatic stage, Joanna has been featured on official soundtracks for video games and television. She appears in the multi-award-winning video game Lies of P, performing the solo track “Arche Abbey,” available on major streaming platforms. She also appears in the original soundtrack of the viral Korean YouTube variety show UMAGAME.

Joanna holds a Master of Music in Vocal Arts from the USC Thornton School of Music, where she studied with Lynn Helding. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a concentration in Music Education from the New England Conservatory.
