Edward Brennan

Tenor

Hailed as a “powerhouse” by the Post and Courier, American tenor Edward Brennan is recognized for his “fierce” dramatic interpretations and distinctively baritonal vocal quality. He is emerging as a compelling voice among the next generation of dramatic tenors, with recent role debuts including Canio (Pagliacci), Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana), and the title role in Wagner’s Lohengrin.

Since his professional debut with Utah Festival Opera in 2017, Brennan has performed with companies across the United States, including Opera MODO (Detroit), Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Opera West (Santa Fe), and Charleston Opera Theater. He has earned recognition in numerous competitions, including the Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition, the Nicholas Zachary Competition, the Michael Ballam International Opera Competition, and the Nicholas Loren Vocal Competition.

A frequent concert soloist, Brennan has appeared with ensembles such as the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Sinfonietta Bel Canto, the Danville Symphony Orchestra, and the Blackburn College Orchestra and Chorale.

Brennan is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he performed extensively with Lyric Theatre @ Illinois and studied with Metropolitan Opera artists Jerold Siena and Nathan Gunn. Notable roles there included Danilo in The Merry Widow and Rapunzel’s Prince in Into the Woods. He later returned as a soloist with Sinfonia da Camera alongside Nathan Gunn and Dawn Harris in The Pirates of Penzance.

In 2019, Brennan trained with the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices under Dolora Zajick and leading European opera professionals. Originally from New Lenox, Illinois, he now serves as Director of Development and Operations for Charleston Opera Theater and resides in St. Augustine, Florida.
