SYNOPSIS 

After fifteen years of wrongful imprisonment in Australia, Benjamin Barker returns to London with a new name—Sweeney Todd—and revenge on his mind. Mrs. Lovett, proprietor of the spectacularly unsuccessful pie shop beneath his old home, tells him that his wife is dead and his daughter Johanna is now the ward of the corrupt Judge Turpin—the very man responsible for Todd’s ruin.

Todd reopens his barber shop and begins plotting the Judge’s demise. Meanwhile, Johanna falls in love with young sailor Anthony Hope, much to the displeasure of Turpin, who has matrimonial plans of his own. When Todd’s first chance at revenge goes disastrously wrong, he decides there are plenty of other throats in London deserving of a close shave.

This presents Mrs. Lovett with a problem: what to do with all the bodies? Fortunately, meat is expensive and her pies could use some improvement.

Business booms, bodies disappear, and Todd’s appetite for vengeance grows increasingly indiscriminate. As Anthony searches for Johanna and the Judge remains in Todd’s sights, old secrets and new victims begin piling up—and in Sweeney Todd’s London, everyone eventually gets what’s coming to them. Or something very much like it.
