Michael Washington

Baritone

Michael Washington is a rising crossover baritone from Long beach, CA. Michael’s love of music and singing at an early age, but it was not until his junior year of high school, when he started to really consider singing as a career.


Michael attended Long Beach City College where he studied classical voice with Dr. Kevin St. Clair, and vocal jazz with Andrea Calderwood. Michael would then transfer to Chapman University where he studied with Dr. Peter Atherton. At Chapman University Michael would perform in several productions including his performance of Carl Magnus in Sondheim’s A little night Music, the role of Sid in Britten’s Albert Herring, Larry in Sondheim’s Company, and Sprecher in Mozart’s The Magic Flute.


Michael has also performed multiple concerts with Chapman University’s big band and jazz combo. His most memorable performance to date was with Pacific Symphony in their semi-staged production of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, his first professional role of Dulcamara.


During his time at Chapman University, Michael participated in masterclasses with Vladimir Chernov and Nathan Gunn. These were very important experiences in the development of his vocal technique and stage presence.

Michael has a BM in vocal performance, and is currently working toward his MM in vocal performance at UCLA.
