Praised for his “soaring lines” and “particularly lyrical” singing (Boston Musical Intelligencer), tenor Taka Komagata performs “with earnest gusto” (The Boston Globe), brightening classical music internationally.
During his 2022/2023 season, Taka made a role debut as Nemorino in The Elixir of Love and Colin Craven in Nolan Gasser’s opera, The Secret Garden, with the Hawai’i Opera Theatre. He performed the tenor solo in Mozart’s Requiem with MidAmerica Productions and the role of Goro in Madama Butterfly with Savannah VOICE Festival. In his 2021/2022 season, Taka made his company and role debut at the Hawai’i Opera Theatre as Goro in Madama Butterfly and at Guerilla Opera as Manny in the world premiere of Gabriele Vanoni’s Ellis, a multimedia immersive opera. In the Winter of 2020, he debuted in Japan, performing the leading male role in an original Christmas musical, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, at Asakusa Kyugeki Theater in Tokyo.
As a former Young Artist at Opera Maine and the Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio of the Hawaii Opera Theatre, he performed in Rossini’s Cenerentola, Gareth Williams’s Rocking Horse Winner, Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne, and Verdi’s Aida. Recent engagements include Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi) in Bulgaria, Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) in Canada, Ferrando (Così fan tutte), and King Kaspjer (Amahl and the Night Visitors) in the U.S. Mr. Komagata co-founded and produces Balcony Series, an artistic troupe delivering timeless compositions to the unsuspecting listener through impromptu performances.
