POP’s smash hit Star Trek parody of Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio is beaming back to LA for the first time since 2016—and only for three performances! First premiered in 2015 and hailed by the Huffington Post as “a creative bit of genius,” this laugh-out-loud production has since made the rounds across the country. Now, it returns to Thorne Hall on the Occidental College campus for a limited run that’s sure to sell out faster than you can say “Beam me up, Belmonte!” Set aboard a starship far, far away, Mozart’s classic comedy gets a sci-fi twist as Captain James T. Belmonte and his crew attempt to rescue Konstanze from the Klingon-esque Selim. Alongside his trusty Vulcan sidekick Mr. Pedrillo, the sassy security officer Blondie, Captain Belmonte must navigate love, loyalty, and intergalactic diplomacy—with plenty of high notes and hijinks along the way. With tenors Brian Cheney and Robert Norman reprising their fan-favorite roles and Mozart’s dazzling score performed in English with orchestra and supertitles, this is opera nerdery at its finest.
Performed with orchestra. Sung in English with English supertitles.

SYNOPSIS
Act I
Space, the final frontier. Stardate 14-20-27. Planet Anigav.
The feared Klingon leader, Chancellor Selim, has captured three members of the Starfleet crew — Lieutenant Constanza, Blonde, and Mr. Pedrillo. When Captain James T. Belmonte beams down to Anigav, he discovers that Constanza has become the Chancellor’s favorite, Pedrillo has been pressed into service as his scientific advisor, and Blonde has been given as a “gift” to Selim’s brutish head of security, Osmin. Belmonte’s first encounter is with Osmin, who is civil—until Belmonte mentions Pedrillo, his rival for Blonde’s affections. Osmin explodes with Klingon fury and drives him away. Pedrillo soon returns and tries to make peace, but Osmin’s temper is unpredictable -- highly illogical.
Belmonte and Pedrillo reunite, and Pedrillo explains that Selim loves Constanza but has vowed not to force himself upon her. Together they hatch a plan: Pedrillo will arrange a secret meeting between Belmonte and Constanza and prepare an escape—if they can get past Osmin. In hiding, Belmonte longs for Constanze. She soon appears with the Chancellor, who gently questions why she resists him. Constanza confesses that her heart belongs to another. After she leaves, Pedrillo introduces Belmonte to Selim under disguise as a promising Federation mechanic with a plan to repair the Klingon Bird-of-Prey fleet. Osmin nearly ruins everything, but his confusion proves useful.
Act II
Blonde proves more than a match for Osmin, outsmarting him at every turn. Meanwhile, Constanza laments her captivity as Selim again pleads for her hand. She boldly refuses—preferring torture or even death to betraying her true love. Pedrillo and Blonde finalize the escape plan: they’ll get Osmin drunk on Romulan Ale laced with a powerful sedative. Once he’s out cold, the lovers will meet beyond the beaming shield and transport back to the ship. The plan almost works—until the transponders malfunction. Just as they’re troubleshooting, Osmin wakes from his stupor and captures the whole group. Dragged before Chancellor Selim, the four are doomed. Belmonte offers his life in exchange for the others’ freedom. Then comes the twist: Selim recognizes Belmonte as the son of his old enemy—the man who once destroyed his empire and family. In a stunning act of honor, Chancellor Selim decides that rather than take blood for blood he will repay evil with good, freeing Constanze, Belmonte, Blonde, and Pedrillo.
